Description

The Fn 250 is a compactable hover truck. You can have something prettier in your pocket, but you will not have anything more useful.

It is intended to serve both as an affordable light hauler for newer players and as pocket workhorse for the rest of the game.

It is dedicated to the people of Support chat who make it possible to learn this game and get through the ugly early days. Thanks to you all.

If you buy everything to assemble the BP at current market prices the parts cost around 150k (1/1/2021) which means BP plus parts (250k total) costs less then what you make in an hour harvesting surface rocks on Sanctuary.

That hour is about the time it took me to figure out what exactly you could cram into a pocket vehicle, a fraction of the time it took to optimize and torture test this thing, and it is so much more vehicle for your quantas then anything you can buy at the OEF store that it hurts my brain and shames whoever though the tutorial should tell you to consider buying those to get you started. Your welcome.

Cargo requires that you have and place a container (or four and a container hub) which you must remove to compact the truck again. In addition, if you load more then 600 fuel, it will not compact (20 tons is the limit to pocket vehicles).

Besides 6 relatively common, durable, and affordable elements, all parts can be made in Nano from surface rocks - both for ease of affording it as a new player and repairs in the field.

Stats given are with zero placement skills and 3's in all relevant piloting skills, as the design is intended to work safely for a new player, and does. Under those conditions (4 Small Containers and a Hub suggested) it will fly easily and safely with 50 tons of cargo.

If you have good talents, get the parts placed with talents, and maybe go all in and spring for Advanced Military Engines (I did), it will move 100+ tons of cargo and flies like a dream.

It is almost perfectly weight/inertia balanced (2 digits) without cargo, and if you place a container hub at 0,0,0 (which is right in the middle of the "t" in the truck bed), it is with cargo as well.

Proper use includes moving you and all your worldly goods off Sanctuary to Alioth, moving plenty of scrap and replacement cores to crash sites, being modified into a space rescue vehicle, and whatever else you need it to do today.

The basic BP is priced to help out new players and is sold without DRM. If you get as much use out of it as I have, want to support the cause, or just want to go straight to the big boy version, the Fn 300 BP (T3 engines) is available for a 1M (which is about what you make in ten minutes of mining once you get past the teething stages, and you will get there). Both are available from dispensers at the Sanctuary 7 Market which are next to the SW support column. Display model on site.

If you can come up with significant improvements or just want to share the story of your truck, we would love to hear from you.
