@Bazzy_505 Hell no. The Outrider was my one and only foray into curves. I swore never again. Curves make the ship take twice as long. And angular ships can look just as interesting.
But yeah I ran into issues with creases as well on the Outrider. I was trying to add a bevel to some of the sharp edges and just gave up on it as I kept getting those icky artifacts. Sure wish we could just directly import .obj files as solid voxel.
I'll leave the curves to the master.

i'm afraid the ship might have sailed on the crazy part a while back. I use vpt to chisel out general idea of the shape but then turn off vpt and mostly eyeball the curve as shape forms. I use matte black plastic as the base material as it gives me very good contrast with both vpt and grid that gets painted over voxel surfaces. Unlike others i prefer not have visible polys in my projection. I find it false help as low poly nature of DU meshing forces you to reinvent the topology into much lower resolution anyway. It can be a little frustrating but once you get intuitive sense of how and why the creases form in the model it kinda opens up the whole process. Btw I really liked your curves on the Outrider. You should totally follow that up with something out of the boxed zone again :)
