It can be modified into a space only asteroid miner with ease and it's very quick in getting to the 'roid and can stay longer than most smaller ships. Blueprint comes with uncommons but the stats are unbuffed with basics. Stats showing in the picture are with T3-4 pilot skills along with a full T5 buff. Patriot was built around a M shield however you can swap out for a S shield for speed under full combat load at 21G of thrust. Keeping the M shield will keep your max speed at around 16-17g of thrust depending on T4-5 skills. If cannons are not your thing you can do the same with the shield and opt to replace them with any other weapon of your choice. I've built a market runner/small hauler, that looks like a container. :P It's 150% the size of an Expanded Basic Container XXL, so it's nearly as long as a full S core. It will take 1.5 kT without problems, and if you have decent piloting talents, its should also handle 2 kT. I've personally taken 2.25 kT of cargo into space without difficulty, with level 5 buffs and level 4 piloting talents. See stats on the last picture.
